How to predict the quantity and quality of wine from a vineyard
The Dehesa la Granja bodega is collaborating in an innovative project titled: Using hyperspectral indicators and hydric variables in the vineyard to estimate the yield and quality of grapes for winemaking. This experimental programme is headed by the Spain-Portugal Centre for Agricultural Research (CIALE) and the University of Salamanca, and is sponsored by the Spanish Nationwide R+D Programme and the EU’s 7th Framework Programme (FP7).
The study will focus on obtaining a detailed analysis of the characteristics of individual vineyards. After the initial experimental stage and once the data from different periods during the year has been compared, this system of measurement will allow winemakers to predict the evolution of their vineyards and, ultimately, their wines.
