In June 2014, the Spanish Government’s Council of Ministers awarded the Gold Medal for Most Outstanding Professional Career to Valladolid winemaker, Alejandro Fernández. On Tuesday 4th November, the award will be presented to Alejandro in an official awards ceremony that will bring together this year’s winners of the prestigious accolade. The list of famous individuals includes: Ángel García Rodríguez (aka Padre Ángel), Rafael Nadal, Esther Koplowitz, Cristina García Rodero, José Agustí Casanova, Vicente Calatayud Maldonado, Máximo Cuñado Alonso, Severino Escurís Batalla, Domingo González Guerra, Pedro Vivanco Paracuellos, Luis Navarro García and Marina Pacheco Valduesa. The recently deceased Paco de Lucía will also be named in a posthumous award tribute.

Alejandro will be presented with the award in recognition of a lifetime of endeavour and development in his tireless quest for a job well done, quality and excellence. Alejandro has been dedicated to the wine industry for more than 40 years, promoting DO Ribera del Duero, and the internationalization of wines from Spain and wines from Castilla y León, while becoming the ambassador par excellence of this exceptional Spanish wine region and, in turn, of Spain itself.
