Pesquera Group
sponsors major Julio Iglesias concert in
Valladolid
His only
performance in Spain as part of the ‘Live’
world tour after five years’ absence
On the 6th September the José Zorrilla
stadium set the scene for devoted fans to
enjoy Julio Iglesias’ sole performance
this year in Spain. The choice of the city
of Valladolid had a lot to do with the singer’s
old friendship with Alejandro Fernández,
founder of the Pesquera Group, and its excellent
wines. Honouring his promise made to the
winemaker in the eighties, Julio Iglesias
finally gave the agreed concert.
The performance was extremely moving from
beginning to end. Not only because of the
songs the famous singer dedicated to his
host Alejandro Fernández and the
audience, but also due to the special moment
when Julio Iglesias paid tribute to the
late Luciano Pavarotti. As well as telling
an amusing and endearing anecdote about
the tenor, he also dedicated one of his
most heartfelt songs to his memory.
The artist performed, for an enthusiastic
public (the most expensive front-row tickets
sold out in the first few days), around
thirty of his most famous songs as well
as a selection of tracks never performed
live before in Spain plus the familiar final
encores. It was also a good occasion for
the singer to present his new orchestra,
six exceptional musicians and three vocalists
who add an individual and attractive style
to the singer’s music. All together
it was an elegant show with well-groomed
staging, designed especially for the ‘Live’
world tour which started in Santiago de
Chile at the beginning of the year and will
end in Macao in December.
Songs such as ‘Quijote’, ‘Ni
te tengo, ni te olvido’, ‘Natalie’,
‘La gota fría’, ‘Ae
Ao’, ‘Un canto a Galicia’,
‘Vuela alto’, ‘All of
you’, ‘La cumparsita’,
‘Divorcio’, ‘Manuela’,
‘La carretera’, ‘Fragile’…were
echoed with feeling by the audience who
packed the José Zorrilla stadium.
Among those attending were, as well as Alejandro
Fernández’s family, personalities
from the political, business, artistic and
intellectual circles of the Castilian-Leonese
capital, together with the VIP presence
of Princess Margarita.
To the rhythm of 'Me va, me va' and with
an 'hasta siempre', the artist said goodbye
to his public while throwing them his jacket,
tie, belt and even his white shirt.
