Pesquera Group putting on the style in Madrid
Fusión
Officially
confirmed, using Alejandro Fernández’s
wines, that two glasses with meals is within
the legal limit for blood alcohol levels
The presence of the Pesquera Group at Madrid
Fusión was quite remarkable in every
sense of the word. On Wednesday afternoon,
the most important day of this International
Gastronomy Summit, now in its fifth edition,
Alejandro Fernández shared a pleasant
moment or two with Elena Espinosa, Minister
of Agriculture, at the Castilla-La Mancha
stand warmed by ‘El Vínculo
Crianza 2003’. This same wine was
used, the next day, for a singular demonstration
carried out by the Fundación Tierra
de Viñedos de Castilla-La Mancha:
in the presence of a Notary and the Local
Police, they set out to prove that two glasses
of wine with a meal does not exceed the
legal limit for blood alcohol level. Not
one of the participants in the experiment,
who included restaurateurs and well-known
chefs, such as Enrique Martin and Lucio
Blázquez, showed positive.
On Wednesday night, the group headed by
Alejandro Fernández was able to bring
together more than a hundred chefs, journalists
and international critics at the Asador
Imanol restaurant. The wines selected for
this occasion were; ‘El Vínculo
Crianza 2003’ with an apéritif
consisting of Iberian ham; ‘Dehesa
La Granja Roble Francés 1999’
to accompany the girdled monkfish; ‘Alenza
Gran Reserva 1999’ with the entrecôte,
and ‘Pesquera Millenium Reserva 2002’
for the dessert, Idiazábal cheese
with quince preserve. Those attending, for
the most part journalists, complimented
the hosts on their good taste for the excellent
combination of food and wine.
Additionally, the Pesquera Group were also
presentat the commemorative tasting for
Wines from Spain’s 25th anniversary,
an event organised by the Spanish Institute
of Foreign Trade (ICEX) and the Spanish
Union of Tasters (UEC), that saw the coming
together of more than 30 journalists and
tasters from some 20 different countries.
Through a selection of 25 wines, homage
was paid to the work of the most representative
Spanish bodegas with an enterprising export
spirit. Pesquera, of course, was on the
list and Alejandro Fernández rose
to the occasion by presenting a ‘Pesquera
Millenium Reserva 2002’.
As a final point, the official lunch held
on the last day of Madrid Fusión
was sponsored by the Valladolid City Council.
As was to be expected, Pesquera was also
present, this time with a ‘Tinto Pesquera
Crianza 2004’.
The style set by the Pesquera Group at this
year’s Madrid Fusión is certainly
an example to follow.
