
Alejandro Fernández:
new member of the ‘Gran Orden de Caballeros
del Vino’
Founded in
1984 by Wines from Spain (Department of
Promotion at the Economic and Commercial
Office of the Spanish Embassy in London),
the Great Order honours those that in the
wine sector, in Great Britain as well as
in Spain, have achieved exceptional performance
in the promotion of Spanish quality wines
in the United Kingdom.
In January 27th, along the 20th Annual
Dinner of the Gran Orden de Caballeros del
Vino (G.O.C.V.), Alejandro Fernández
has been invested as a new member of the
Great Order. The enormous work developed
by this natural of Valladolid province –who
has travelled all over the world with a
bottle of Spanish wine under his arm–
is thus recognized.
The
event was attended by more than 340 people,
members of the media, producers, importers
and specialised shops managers. Mr. José
Manuel Reyero (Chancellor of the G.O.C.V
and Vice-president of ICEX) and Mrs. Rocío
Alberdi (Vice-chancellor of the G.O.C.V
and Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial
Office of the Spanish Embassy in London)
where the masters of the ceremony of investment,
together with Mr. Alfredo Bonet (General
Director of ICEX) and Mr. Juan Calabozo
(Director of the Agro-alimentary division).
New members of the Great Order are dressed
with a gown in red and yellow and with a
mortarboard in black velvet, the official
clothing of the ‘Caballeros’.
The happening took place at the Four Seasons
Hotel, in London, whose cook in chief, Bernhard
Mayer, offered and imaginative menu combined
with eight wines from several Spanish regions.
Those wines were previously chosen along
a blind tasting done by the members of the
Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino.
In this way, Alejandro Fernández
becomes a member of this prestigious order,
in a well deserved acknowledgement of his
indefatigable labour as an ambassador of
Spanish wine all over the world. |
